Disappointment– His Appointment”
Change one letter, then I see
That the thwarting of my purpose
Is God’s better choice for me.
His appointment must be blessing,
Tho’ it may come in disguise,
For the end from the beginning
Open to His wisdom lies.
This excerpt from a poem by Edith Lillian Young is so brilliant. I love the creative playfulness of the wording. However, it is the truth that it conveys that is so powerful. Here in a few well phrased words Young explains so much about the Lord’s place in our pain.
What we see as a negative disabling experience, he sees as an opportunity to lift us to perfection.
When we think we have it all together or have it all under control we are only fooling ourselves. Self sufficiency is at the heart of all sin and is driven by pride. When we are broken he can make us whole.
The Lord in his love for us allows us to fall and break so that in our brokeness and pain we will see that we are utterly frail and spiritually challenged.
Romans 8:28 states “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him,who have been called according to his purpose.”
God is taking the good, the bad and the ugly things to develop good in our lives. The good is his higher purpose for us ,diamond are created from intense heat and severe pressure over a long period of time.
Lord in your mercy don’t answer our prayers for blue skies and smooth sailing everyday. Bring the clouds and the wind if that is what will makes us more dependent on you and develop your diamonds in us.
